Notice Writing Format Class 12
The format of a notice is fixed and must be followed exactly in the CBSE board exam. Incorrect format can cost you marks. Below is the complete format with detailed explanation of each part.
Complete Notice Format
NAME OF THE SCHOOL / INSTITUTION
NOTICE
Date: 10 March 2026
TITLE OF THE NOTICE
Body of the notice in 40–50 words.
This should answer:
- WHAT is happening
- WHEN it will take place
- WHERE it will be held
- WHO should attend / participate
- HOW to register or contact
Name of the Writer
Designation (Head Boy / Secretary)
Format Breakdown
1Name of the Institution
Write the name of your school or organization at the top center. This tells the reader where the notice is from. Example: Delhi Public School, New Delhi
2The Word "NOTICE"
Write the word NOTICE in capital letters, centered below the school name. This is mandatory and missing it will cost marks.
3Date
Write the date on the left side below NOTICE. Use the format: 10 March 2026. Do not use abbreviations like 10/03/26.
4Title / Heading
Write a short, clear title that tells the reader what the notice is about. The title should be in capital letters and centered. Example: INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION
5Body (40–50 words)
This is the main content. It should cover the 5 Ws: What, When, Where, Who, and Why. Keep it formal, concise, and in the third person. Do not use "I" or "We".
6Writer's Name and Designation
Sign off with the name and title of the person issuing the notice. Example: Rahul Sharma, Head Boy or Priya Gupta, Secretary, Literary Club

- Not mentioning the designation of the writer
Incorrect vs Correct Examples
See how common mistakes look in practice. Compare the incorrect version with the corrected one to understand what examiners expect.
Mistake 1: Missing Format Elements
School name, "NOTICE" heading, date, and designation are missing — this loses the format mark entirely.
